1646 — July 1st: Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz Born
Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz was an early mathematician who is credited with modern differential and integral calculus. Gottfried made significant contributes to the computer industry in the early creation of a calculator. He was responsible for refining the binary system which is the foundation of all digital computer systems. He invented the pinwheel calculator, the Leibniz Wheel, which was used in the arithmometer, the first mass-produced mechanical calculator.
