1972 — June 27th: Atari was born, launching the video game industry
Atari founded by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, was the leading influence in early video game companies. Their first game Pong was the first successfully released video game that started the entire industry. The Atari 2600 started in 1977 as Atari’s Video Computer System (VCS) and began the home video game market. Atari experienced record breaking growth until 1983 when competing consoles entered the market creating a sales challenge, however the name Atari has been synonymous with video games ever since.
